"The architecture and site specific art works for Forum Homini were so rooted in the theme of the 'evolution of man', the interior design needed a theatrical flavour." Lisa Younger
Architecture has a massive impact on our physical environment and just as significant impact on our psyche. Activate Architects focus on architecture and interior design and aim to activate clients' lives through the introduction of imaginative and intelligent solutions, geared to their specific requirements. The design united stone age with modern age as a narrative.
At the entrance you are greeted by Marco Cianfanelli's 'The Sum of us' signifying the evolution from the early ancestral skull into the shape of modern man. Walking down the entrance that forms a splice in the earth, very much like the entrance to the dolomitic Sterkfontein Caves, are aggregated footprints (resembling the famous Laetoli footprints) which are embedded in the ground. Leading guests down are sandstone totems lining the walkway into a Greek style amphitheatre. The highlight in this area is the magnificent Forum, the main conference area, and a fire-cradle also by Marco Cianfanelli, depicting the human journey out of Africa.
Our creative team consisted of Michael Magner, Edward Brooks, Reon van der Weil from Activate Architects and Interior designer Lisa Younger.
