Marcus Samuelson's visit to roots

owners profile

"I have called this principle, by which, each slight variation, if useful, is preserved, by the term of Natural Selection. "

Charles R. Darwin

The Marais family are owners and directors of Forum Homini. Their combined passion for business, art, culinary pursuits and the evolution of man is the inspiration behind this exciting development. With their vast experience of owning and managing companies in retail, wholesale and manufacturing, they're well-placed to expand their knowledge to tourism and hospitality. "The idea of a five star Hotel has always been on my list of 1000 things I'd like to do before I die," says Chairman, Hendrik Marais, "..and so when the opportunity came to build a Hotel in The Cradle of Humankind, all the pieces seemed to fall into place. Of course, with the upgrade of Sterkfontein and Blue IQ's futuristic Interpretation Centre opening this year; the timing is perfect"

Hendrik expands further, "Forum Homini is not in your face, it's not a theme park or a museum. It's a six star 'think park!' A place where you can relax, dine, and stay in superb luxury: be near nature and be infused with the story of humankind. Contemplate and meditate; enjoy talking to like minded people knowing you're exactly at the spot on earth where it all happened!"

Management of the Hotel comes highly recommended. All have a common goal in mind - excellent service to the patrons of Forum Homini hotel & roots restaurant. "Staff turnover is low," says Hendrik. "We have transparency - because all management and staff have an open door policy to myself and participate in weekly meetings and strategy sessions."

narrative
Narrative of Forum Homini
“The dream or vision of Forum Homini is to make the dramatic story of the evolution of man accessible, interesting and fun.” “It’s a story of living people, not fossils and bones, asking the question – what happened? How and why did we change and survive?”

A personal walk through the hotel:

As we turn onto the dirt road that leads to the hotel I could swear that the road sign we just rattled past had “ape-men crossing” on it?  I look out for upright walking hominids -Bigfoot, Yeti, The Abominable Snowman  Outside the hotel is a 4 meter high sculpture cut out of steel.  As we get closer we see that it is an ape head and skull that slowly evolves, steel blade by steel blade, into a modern human profile.  (The sum  of Us by Marco Cianfanelli)
